An antibiotic with broad-spectrum coverage used for treating bacterial infections in the digestive tract, bones, respiratory tract, skin, ears, sinuses, and more. . A part of the fluoroquinolone family, often Ciprofloxacin is used as a treatment for traveller’s diarrhoea, but the antibiotic has many applications in the dental practice too and can be used to manage postoperative infections.
The difference in dose size is the primary difference in these two products. You might want to prescribe a lower dose to younger children, or to patients with a history of kidney problems. Please see the product information leaflet for more on this.
Ciprofloxacin should not be given to:
Pregnant or breastfeeding women
Patients over 60
Patients with a brain or nervous system disorder
Patients who have had an organ transplant
Patients with kidney problems
Patients who are currently taking corticosteroids
