Midazolam, which is sometimes marketed under the brand name 'Versed,' is a benzodiazepine commonly used as a pre-medication to alleviate anxiety, or provide anesthesia before specific medical procedures or surgeries. It can be administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM). Benzodiazepines function by enhancing the levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain, leading to a calming sedative effect.
