Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic, meaning it can be administered to patients who are allergic to penicillin, or in cases where an infection is resistant to penicillin. Used in dental practices to target dental infections, doxycycline tends to help patients feel better within 1-2 days of starting their course. An example of when doxycycline may be used in the dental practice would be the treatment of periodontitis.
Your patient should start to feel better within 3 days. Headaches, nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity. Refer to the product information pamphlet for more details.
Doxycycline is not advised in:
Patients who have had an allergic reaction to doxycycline
Patients kidney or liver problems
Patients with an inflamed food pipe
Patients with lupus
Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding
